New work: painting process

I wanted to share the process of my most recent painting. The size is 16 x 16 inches, oil on board. At this point I was blocking in the colour over the initial drawing. You can see the remains of the drawing of the vase.

A close-up of the underpainting. I paint with thick paint because I will add even thicker paint with the palette knife.

You can see that I have finished the vase. I usually paint the vase after the bouquet but recently i have been doing it in a different order. Seems to be working well though.

Here is the finished piece. I love the freshness of the bouquet and the colour palette. I have been doing a series of these 16 x 16 inch garden bouquets in jugs. They are such a joy to paint.
