New work: Small fun pieces

I had some little bits of paint left over on my palette.  I don’t like to waste paint and these blobs would have dried before I painted my next piece.  I have some 8 x 10 inch canvas boards around for occasions like this and decided to have some fun with Autumn bouquets and stripes.  They are for sale, if anyone is interested. They sell for £250 each(unframed) which includes p&p within the UK and worldwide. Please contact me for further info.

“September bouquet”, oil on canvas board, 10 x 8 inches, £250 (unframed)
“September bouquet with figs” oil on canvas board, 8 x 10 inches, £250 (unframed)

I will be painting the background gold. I have an underpainting of pink so it will show through the gold a bit and create some harmony.

The bouquet and the fig have a thin wash of colours.
The colours of the bouquet and the fig have been blocked in.
The gold is looking great. I am using it straight out of the tube with a bit of liquin impasto gel added in

What’s drying in my studio: Autumn/Winter Still life

Done! I love the different oranges against the various blues. I think my next painting will involve reds and golds, I'm still planing it out in my head. Tonight I will be cooking up a storm as tomorrow is Thanksgiving! So, Happy Turkey Day to my fellow American expats and those back home celebrating!
Done! I love the different oranges against the various blues. To me, this painting totally captures the feeling of Autumn turning into Winter.  I think my next painting will involve reds and golds, I’m still planning it out in my head. In my studio: Starting an Autumn/Winter still life- 35 x 35 inches

I have been looking forward to painting my new pitcher and jug. Keeping with the seasonal theme I added persimmons, a small branch with berries from my front garden and tiny frosted pine cones. it is getting a bit colder and I am really getting excited about Thanksgiving and Christmas! Can you tell?
I have been looking forward to painting my new pitcher and jug for two weeks.  I found them in an antique shop not too far from us in Lavenham.  Keeping with the seasonal theme I added persimmons, a small branch with berries from my front garden and branches with tiny frosted pine cones. It is getting a bit colder and I am really getting excited about Thanksgiving and Christmas! Can you tell?  The drawing looks a bit crazy towards the top but, when I block in the colour it will make more sense.  Also, my lilies are taking their sweet time opening up.  Using images of other still life set ups I sketched in some open lilies.  Ok, back to work I go!

What’s drying in my studio: I’m finally done! 30 x 36 inch Autumn still life

Well, it took quite a while to finish but I am happy with the end result. I would have taken more pictures but I just wanted to finish. This painting has taken way more time than needed. I was just plain tuckered out to be honest. The detail involved was a bit overwhelming. It was worth all the hard work though.
