Recent painting: Spring Sunday

Above: ‘Spring Sunday’ oil on cradled panel, 30 x 30 inches– I have recently been working on a large still life painting filled with various subjects.  All in all it took me 4 days to complete, working an average of 6hrs a day.  It was very hard work and it took a lot of energy to finish. Moving forward, I will be working to the ‘less is more’ model!  Regardless, I am very happy with how it came out. I think doing detailed ones like this every so often will be fine.

New work: Small fun pieces

I had some little bits of paint left over on my palette.  I don’t like to waste paint and these blobs would have dried before I painted my next piece.  I have some 8 x 10 inch canvas boards around for occasions like this and decided to have some fun with Autumn bouquets and stripes.  They are for sale, if anyone is interested. They sell for £250 each(unframed) which includes p&p within the UK and worldwide. Please contact me for further info.

In the last post I stopped after finishing the bouquet. Above you can see I am almost done with the ceramic jar.

Here is a close up. You can see I am using both a palette knife and a brush.

I added the reflection of the blue cloth onto the jar. It looks very glossy now.

The tea canister is next. Before I add any pattern I paint it as though it is a plain white canister.

Now for the fun part! With a thin brush I add the pattern.

I know I skipped ahead but I was in the zone and I didn’t pause to take pictures. It is very close to being finished now.

It’s done! Sorry about the glare, I wanted to show the true colours of the painting. Now I will put my feet up and watch some telly.
